My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Book 11/50

JailbirdJailbird by Heather Huffman

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The plot and character development were severely lacking. Midway through the book I realized that this isn't a crime thriller, it's a Religious romance novel and gave up hopes of it being what I originally thought it was. From that point forward I read it as it was intended, a fluff romance novel with a poorly thought out plot thrown in. I enjoyed reading it but I would not pay for it.

Book 10/50

Redwood Bend (Virgin River, #18)Redwood Bend by Robyn Carr

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Solid read for Virgin River fans, I enjoyed it but did not enjoy either of the characters greatly. Hated that we went back to heroine falling pregnant "accidently" format, thought we'd passed that hurdle.

This was a disappointing read, thank goodness it was free for the Kindle.

This was an OK read, wasn't that "thrilled" by it and it was very slow paced.

Book 6/50

Dodge the BulletDodge the Bullet by Christy Hayes

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a Kindle freebie that I enjoyed. I always go into the freebies with lowered expectations because well, they're free and most likely self published. There are a few typos (approx. 20) but not enough to distract the reader. The story over all, well written, grammatically correct, thought out and is very straight forward in the romance department.

I'm an admitted romance novel fan so my review comes from that stand point, if someone generally does not read romance they will be turned off. My only complaints with the story line were the additions of Lyle and Kevin's viewpoint coming out of left field. I think the book dragged longer than necessary and could have been about 3-4 chapters shorter. Also Dodge's back-story could have been beefed up, I felt that it fell very flat and was not enough for the entire town to hold so much hostility towards him.

Book 5/50

A Previous EngagementA Previous Engagement by Stephanie Haddad

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a quick and funny chick lit romance read. Don't go in expecting great literary truths, grab some wine or comfort food and prepare to laugh and shake your head at the characters.

Book 4/50

And Then There Were NoneAnd Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I originally read this book in grade school and remembered enjoying but wanted to reread with an 'adult' understanding since I knew a lot of the themes went right over my head.

Boy was I right! This is a great book and left me up many nights until the wee hours 'just to finish one more chapter'

Book 3/50

Hidden Summit (Virgin River, #17)Hidden Summit by Robyn Carr

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is a solid 3.6-4 star book. I did have to detract for the repetitive sex segments. Robyn manages once again to concentrate on her main characters developing romance but including enough interaction from our Virgin River favorites. I enjoyed Leslie's friendship with the neighbors closest to her and her introduction to the town. Glad also she didn't end up pregnant half way through the book like so many VR heroines prior to her.

I do wish we didn't have to read so much about her divorce or dippy husband but overall if you're a VR fan you will enjoy.

Book 1/50 Review

Eve by Iris Johansen 2.5/5

This book kept me turning the pages after page 200 or so BUT it was very unrealistic and the dialogue was forced and unbelievable. I'm coming into the series very late,  but these were getting read heavily on my BBC Book Club group and I needed to read something. Ms. Johansen's fascination with the "projects" and how Eve crawled out were forced and reeks of someone who has never set foot in a real poor community. The teenagers spoke like they were in their mid thirties as opposed to being 16/18 year olds. I didn't connect with any of the main characters so I didn't care who died or lived. I think I should have started from the first Eve Duncan book to get into this series.
